HAC Success Stories

"I had driven past the HAC a hundred times but had never stepped foot in the place and had no intention of doing so, I had joined Fitness clubs in the past and went maybe once... for the tour. I get asked all the time why was this time different.. The answer is two-fold - the staff at the HAC and signing up from the beginning with a personal trainer, smartest thing I did in this whole journey...Signing up for personal training did a few things:

1. Made me accountable to someone else, we had dates and times where I was expected to show up
2. I now had someone to show me what to do, I was clueless which I have a problem admitting
3. This person was going to teach and encourage me and show me that I could push myself physically and see real results.

Over time the weight began to come off slow and steady but the real transformation was the way in which the exercise was changing my entire physique. On Wednesday March 14, 2012, I weighed in and the numbers came up...it showed that I had lost a total of 100.8 pounds...Of course the first person I texted was my personal trainer Damon. I will in no way tell people this was easy, it was a lot of hard work and perseverance...Sounds so cliché but it is true there are no shortcuts, quick fixes etc just old fashion diet and exercise."

When HAC Member Nancy walked in the day after New Year’s Jan. 2, 2008, she was ready to change her life. A 47 yr. old hard-working business owner with a toddler and a first grader and a clinically low metabolism, her weight and fitness goals weren’t something she could conquer alone. With the HAC’s late hours and finding a HAC trainer willing to work with her after her kids’ bedtime, she found the help she was seeking. Having a support network, a schedule or framework to reach those goals, and investing in the right tools are what most of us need to meet a challenge, big or small.

Nancy says “When I walked into the door on Jan. 2, 2009 a full 95 pounds lighter and 44 inches smaller, I cried a little…there was something about walking in on that particular day. I was so proud I wanted to walk up to everyone and tell them what I had done…that I had taken control of my life and my health and transformed myself over the last 365 days.”

My family and I have been members for about a year and a half now. I had a laugh in Hockessin the other day when I found out that the Piedmont baseball team I manage, The American League Cardinals, is being sponsored by HAC. Here is the team I coach being sponsored by the gym where I come in everyday at 5:30 am and spend more time there than I do at home sometimes!!

I am a walking billboard for the gym. When I joined HAC, I weighted 290 pounds and my Hockessin doctor gave me diabetic meds and heart medicine. We joined the gym for the kids but I ended up using it the most, first a few times a week and now I go five or six times a week. I try to get in every morning at 5:30 to start my day right. Now I weigh in at 210 and feel way better. Doc took me off all the meds and now I can look forward to being around a good bit longer. I mentioned to two of the parents on our team that I still think it is funny how my kids are sponsored by the gym that changed my life.
